Overview

JVA Device

If you find yourself experiencing various symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD), such as jaw popping or clicking, jaw clenching (bruxism), stiff jaw, or headaches, it is pertinent to receive treatment as soon as possible to prevent your condition and pain from worsening. At his Melbourne, FL facility, Dr. Sangiv Patel employs an impressive register of innovative technology that he will use to fully assess your concerns and make a precise diagnosis. One of these technologies is the Joint Vibration Analysis, or BioJVA™, which works by monitoring the friction and vibration present when your jaw moves. The JVA device records this activity so it can then be examined by Dr. Patel at his private practice, Sangiv I. Patel, D.D.S., PA. Contact our office if you think you could benefit from receiving a BioJVA™ diagnosis for your TMJ disorder.

Leadership

Dr. Sangiv I Patel is an experienced and recognized leader in BioEMG with a Mastership award in dental biometrics and has lectured, published and served as a Beta-Tester for the BioJVA™ technology through the years. His experience is in the top 5% of providers for BioJVA™ with the evaluation of over 17,000 biometric traces.

Best Candidates

If you have endured a physical trauma that has caused you discomfort, are in poor dental health, or are experiencing the physical symptoms of TMJ disorder, you could be a candidate to receive a diagnosis with this technology. We will use the BioJVA™ to accurately assess the intensity, frequency, and duration of frictional episodes while the TM Joints are functioning and at rest. This technology gives a detailed account of the condition of your TM Joints while performing various tasks, which will allow him to make an effective diagnosis and treatment plan that will rid you of your pain. Like the other technologies we house at our location, such as the T-Scan™ Bite Analysis and the 3D Cone Beam CT scan, the results of your JVA diagnostic will help Dr. Patel determine the best treatment program to remedy your TMD.

What to Expect & How It Works

Human joints have surfaces that rub together in function. Smooth, well-lubricated surfaces in a proper biomechanical relationship produce little friction and little vibration. But surface changes, such as those caused by degeneration, tears, or displacements of the disk, generally produce friction and vibration. Different disorders can produce different vibration patterns or “signatures”. PC-assisted vibration analysis helps identify these patterns and helps Dr. Patel to distinguish among various TM disorders. BioJVA™ provides a fast, non-invasive, and repeatable measurement of TMJ function to aid in the diagnosis of TMJ function without radiation.

Follow-up

If it is determined that you do suffer from temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJD), Dr. Patel may require you to come in for additional follow-up appointments to appropriately address your condition. After you have recovered from your TMJD, it is important that you continue to schedule your yearly dental examinations and twice-yearly cleanings at Dr. Patel's practice, Sangiv I. Patel, D.D.S., PA. This will allow him to continue to monitor your recovery and overall oral health.

Fees & Insurance Coverage

It is our experience that dental insurance does not provide coverage of the cost of your surface electromyography (EMG). It is a fee for service procedure. Our Melbourne, FL office accepts a variety of payments, as well as low-interest dental financing, visit our Payments and Financing page for more information.
